Fellow Bermudians,
Fast forward to 2024, and Bermuda has a bye election in C10, Smiths North on May 22 arising from the retirement of the Hon. Michael Dunkley. It was contested by the PLP, OBA and Independent Sir. John Swan. The OBA retain the seat.
Bermuda then had a bye election in C36 Sandy’s North in October 2024 following the resignation of The Hon. Kathy Simmons. It was contested by the
PLP, OBA, FDM and an independent. The PLP retained the seat. Immediately
following, the Hon. Marc Bean called for all parties to unite. Not based on political
ideology – but on a common goal to defeat the PLP.
The Hon. Jarion Richardson, OBA Leader, originally entertained the idea of unification
but later rejected working in unison. Fast forward to 2025 when Premier David Burt
called for a General Election on February 18. During one of their candidate rollouts, in
January 2025, FDM Chairman Omar Dill reiterates the Hon. Marc Bean’s unification
call to all political contenders. Not based on political ideology – but on a common goal
to defeat the PLP.
On nomination day January 31, 2025, the highest number of political candidates were
nominated to stand for election – 110. 36 PLP, 36 OBA, 27 Independents and 10
FDM. There are some ‘pseudo independents’, under the umbrella of Sir John Swan
and some ‘independent independents’ genuinely running under their own steam.
Bermuda awaits the outcome of the election on February 18.
But through it all, the PLP is the only party that has stood the test of time--built on a
lasting political ideology of social equity and social justice. Sixty years and counting.

without roots... Marcus Garvey.
